Digitalisation via scanner or digital camera, subjecting the original to long or intense periods of illumination, could damage the documents.

This study intends to analyse the damage that visible and ultraviolet radiation can induce on objects of historical-artistic interest on a paper support, tying the variations in the physical, chemical and mechanical characteristics of certain materials to the entity and modalities of illumination.

Successively, we shall measure the conditions of illumination that a document is subjected to during the digitalisation process with a scanner and with a digital camera, estimating the possible damage the document itself encounters.
