Digitalising works is the ideal solution to satisfy the twofold need for accessibility and preservation. Thanks to the Internet, digital reproduction indeed enables, on one hand, ample and diffused access, no longer limited to the works' place of conservation; on the other hand, the existence of the digital copy drastically reduces the need to manipulate it to the cases in which its physical nature becomes important, that is when the analysis hinges on the work’s physical characteristics (support, watermark, mounting, etc.).
For their importance and dimensions, the collections of the Gabinetto Disegni e stampe degli Uffizi require a special disposition that, without compromising their conservation in time, will enable a more frequent and better use, and not only for study and research.
