- Promotion of persistent identifiers and NBNs
Arouse sensitivity around the technologies for the stability of the addresses of resources on the Internet, and a feasibility study for an implementation of the National Bibliography Number system in the cultural and scientific milieu.
- Prototype development and verification of technology

- Promotion of open-source technologies
Through the use of open-source technologies, we seek to further underline the orientation by now assumed by the world of cultural properties with Open Access approaches, and to increase the possibilities for further implementations of the same service in Europe.
- Development of digital preservation
The PI service urges cultural institutions to assume responsibility concerning the guarantee the resource’s physical access in the long term. This responsibility can be translated into realising digital preservation policies on their own digital contents, or delegating this action to third party institutions (mirroring, legal deposit). In any case, the availability of digital cultural resources on the Internet will increase.
- Defence of minor literature
Small publishers and producers of grey literature, various researchers, experts, citizens who risk falling into a digital black hole. It is important to preserve this wealth of culture and protect the democracy of the future digital world. This project will permit the identification on the Internet of digital cultural resources by means of a unique schema, thus enabling cultural institutions to render accessible their still not visible documents.
- Access to resources of difficult or impossible consultation
Cultural institutions can finally valorise the results of the digitalisation campaigns they have conducted these past years by assigning, for example, identification codes and descriptive metadata to digitalisations of manuscripts or antique books, thereby increasing the possibility of access, retrieval and diffusion of the Italian cultural heritage.
